Step 1. Lead - in (5 minutes)
The teacher shws sme pictures r vide clips f peple making New Year's reslutins thrugh multimedia and asks students, "What can yu see in these pictures/vides? D yu knw what peple usually d at the beginning f a new year?" Guide students t think and answer, leading t the tpic f New Year's reslutins in this lessn.
Let students share their experiences f making New Year's reslutins. Briefly describe the cntent f the plans they made. Create a relaxed classrm atmsphere and stimulate students' learning interest.
Step 2 Vcabulary Learning (8 minutes)
Use the PPT t display the key vcabulary and phrases that appear in 1a - 2c, such as "reslutin", "physical health", "self - imprvement", "take up", "hbby", "prmise", etc. Help students understand the meanings f the wrds thrugh pictures, English explanatins, r example sentences. Fr example, shw a picture f peple exercising in the gym t explain "physical health"; use the example sentence "He made a prmise t himself t study harder." t explain "prmise".
Lead students t read the vcabulary and phrases and crrect their prnunciatins. Then play a vcabulary game called "Wrd Chain". The teacher says a wrd, such as "reslutin", and students take turns t say a new wrd starting with the last letter f the previus wrd, like "hbby", "yuth", etc., t help students cnslidate their vcabulary memry.
Let students d simple sentence - making exercises with the learned vcabulary. Invite sme students t share their sentences. The teacher gives timely feedback and guidance, crrecting incrrect usages.
Step 3 Reading Practice (15 minutes)
Skimming: Distribute printed materials f the reading article t students. Let students quickly skim the article t find the main idea. The teacher asks, "What is the main idea f the passage?" Guide students t pay attentin t key infrmatin such as the tpic sentences f each paragraph, cultivating skimming skills. Invite students t share the main idea they fund, and the teacher summarizes and supplements.
Scanning: The teacher asks sme specific questins, such as "What are the mst cmmn kinds f New Year's reslutins?" "Why d peple hardly ever keep their reslutins?" Let students read the article again t quickly find the answers. After students find the answers, they check with their deskmates. The teacher checks the answers and explains, helping students master scanning skills.
Intensive Reading: The teacher leads students t read the article paragraph by paragraph. Analyze the lng and difficult sentences in the article, such as "Reslutins can be abut anything. Sme are abut physical health. Fr example, sme peple may prmise t exercise mre r eat mre healthily." Explain the sentence structures and grammar knwledge t help students understand the article cntent. Step 4 Discussin and Sharing (12 minutes)
Organize students t have grup discussins n the fllwing questins: "D yu think it is useful t make reslutins? Why r why nt?" "What are the difficulties yu may face when making and keeping reslutins?" "Hw can yu make yur reslutins wrk?" Each grup selects a grup leader t rganize the discussin and recrd the results.
After the grup discussins, each grup selects a representative t speak and share the grup's discussin results with the whle class. Students frm ther grups listen carefully and can make supplements and ask questins. During the students' speeches, the teacher guides students t think deeply, encurages students t express different views, and cultivates students' critical thinking and language - expressing abilities.
The teacher summarizes and evaluates the discussin results f each grup. Cmbining the article cntent and students' sharing, emphasize the imprtance f making and sticking t New Year's reslutins, as well as sme effective methds and strategies, such as setting reasnable gals, breaking large gals int small nes, and seeking the supervisin and supprt f thers.
Step 5 Writing Practice (10 minutes)
Writing Guidance: Based n the cntent learned in this lessn, guide students t d a writing practice. Give the writing tpic "My New Year's Reslutins". Help students srt ut their writing ideas and list the writing pints, such as intrducing the reasns fr making New Year's reslutins, the specific cntent f the plans (starting frm aspects such as study, health, hbbies, etc.), and hw t achieve these plans. Remind students t use the learned vcabulary and sentence patterns, and pay attentin t the structure and lgic f the article.
Students' Writing: Students start writing accrding t the pints they listed. The teacher walks arund and prvides individual guidance, encuraging students t express their ideas bldly and pay attentin t the crrect use f grammar and vcabulary. Remind students t write neatly and divide the article int apprpriate paragraphs.
Presentatin and Evaluatin: Invite 3 - 4 students t cme t the frnt f the class t share their cmpsitins. Other students listen carefully and take ntes n the advantages and disadvantages. After the sharing, rganize students t evaluate frm aspects such as cntent integrity, vcabulary usage, grammatical crrectness, and lgical cherence. The teacher finally gives a summary evaluatin, affirms students' advantages, and puts frward imprvement suggestins fr cmmn prblems, such as hw t enrich the detailed descriptin and ptimize the sentence structure.
